Hi all, and thank you for the warm welcome from the team!

Just wondering!

Do people who holiday in their own properties , and are not regular residents organise for a key

Holder to check out their properties and flush toilets?   Is there a problem with properties who are not

Used on a regular basis ?

Thank you for reading this !

Have never used a key holder in 26 years. Our apartment is only used for a few weeks in the year. Never had a problem with smells or damp. The only air it gets is a a small grill on the bottom of the door from the kitchen into the back balcony/storage area which is glassed in but has a small overflow chute on the floor so that gives air to the door grill. Hope that helps.

Thank you Bee 2!

I asked this because we have had a leak in our apartment which has affected the one below.  Only found out because our son and family arrived yesterday to find the kitchen was flooded.  Long story, as we have had a painter in and plumber who installed central heating.  No problem with them,  but three weeks ago our other son was packing for flight home, when plumber returned on request of my hubby, as there was no water supply to washing machine.  So we have had a slow leak for three weeks .  Plumber. Has been back and said it wasn’t central heating causing the problem,  but that was as the mains water for the whole complex had been turned off!   We have insurance, but the whole episode only confirms  on my reluctance to have central heating installed !

We turn off the water and the power inside the apartment. We don't have access to turn off at the community meters. If the immersion tank leaks then it will go out through the small drain on the back balcony but if anything inside springs a leak then I fear it would be leaking until somebody in the apartment below us  or ourselves found it !! Hopefully it will stay dry as it has done up to now !!

I know quite a few owners who have someone check their property when it is standing empty.  We do, but our place isn't empty very often.

Always used a key holder for peace of mind. It’s been really handy too if we’ve needed to get someone in to do odd jobs it repairs. Hopefully we won’t have another pandemic, but during that time it was particularly helpful
